Resolutions Done Right

Growth
Jen and Karen stand and laugh with cocktails in hand.
Happy New Year! You’ve got a blank sheet of paper (literal or metaphorical) in front of you, and you’re sitting down to write those resolutions. Still, we can’t help but remember how we’ve been burned by forgotten goals of years past. Can we make this year different? How can we map out resolutions that stick, based on intention rather than restriction? This episode, we chat about the pros and cons of hard-and-fast New Year’s resolutions, and discuss some more intentional and flexible approaches that work for everyone.

It’s a new year, which means culture is telling us it’s time to write resolutions. But hard refreshes aren’t for everyone. (We believe cold turkey is best served as a sandwich after Thanksgiving instead.) For some, however, this can be an ideal time to set intentions and plot paths for growth. So: What’s on the horizon for 2025, and what do we want to put into the universe?

This episode, we discuss our own goals and the process of setting thoughtful intentions. The new year should be a season for reflection, not restriction, and it’s important to remember that fresh starts can happen long after January has come and gone. But what goes into a strategic (or, SMART) goal? How can we organize our hopes and dreams around a central theme or word to guide our direction?

We discuss our process for new year goal-setting across all areas of life: work, family, hobbies, and personal growth. Whether you’re looking to embrace new opportunities or release old habits, we have a few practical tips to craft resolutions that inspire, empower, and stick.

Spicy Screwdriver

Spicy Screwdriver

Vodka
Two glasses of an orange drink garnished with a basil leaf, orange peel, and jalapeno.
Out with the old, in with the bold: Kick off the new year with the Spicy Screwdriver, a new twist on a classic cocktail. When Jen was gifted a spicy bottle of pertsovka, we knew we needed a recipe for this bold booze to start the year strong. This zesty concoction blends strong spice with fragrant basil for a refreshing kick. Garnished with an orange peel, basil leaf, and a feisty jalapeño slice (if you’re feeling brave), it’s a drink that teases the senses and balances sweet, spicy, and herbaceous flavors. Perfect for adventurous sippers, the Spicy Screwdriver is a crowd-pleaser with just the right amount of attitude to welcome in 2025.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. pertsovka
  • 1 oz. non-infused vodka
  • 1 oz. basil-infused simple syrup
  • 4 oz. freshly squeezed orange juice
  • Orange peel, basil leaf, and jalapeno slice to garnish

Preparation

  1. Add all ingredients to a large pitcher.
  2. When ready to serve, shake with ice in a cocktail shaker, and strain into ice-filled tumblers.
  3. Garnish with a basil leaf, orange peel, and jalapeno slice. Enjoy!
