Burnout and Boredom — How to Handle Feeling Blah
This pandemic has left us all feeling exhausted. Along with that exhaustion, we've all felt our fair share of boredom and fatigue — but it's important to distinguish between feeling bored and being completely burned out. This episode, we're getting into the nitty gritty of our emotions. How can we recognize and differentiate what we are feeling and how to avoid the issues they can pose?

The last year has been a case study in how fatigue and boredom have a ripple effect across every area of our lives: at work, at home, and with our families. Most of us have battled with both of these feelings, whether we were aware of it or not.

The pandemic and work from home life brought with it a new kind of monotony, and after a year of being confined to a very limited number of safe activities, we are beginning to feel the effects of this past year more than ever. But where is the line between everyday boredom and full-out fatigue? And, among our teams, how can we keep up morale?

In this episode, we discuss the differences between the two and how we can address the challenges that come along with these complex emotions. How do we swim upstream when we're feeling tired and worn out? How can we stimulate ourselves and create variety before we get bored? We're sharing how we got out of our own slumps and what we learned along the way.

This week's rum cocktail is fittingly titled: Chaotic Neutral. While the recipe may seem a bit chaotic, we assure you the smooth, blended taste is worth it. Mixing Key West Rum, raspberry brandy, and Contratto Bitter, it's a rum-forward drink and the perfect nightcap if you need some neutrality after a hectic day. If you want to add a little more chaos, add in a dash of red pepper juice for a hectic spin on a daiquiri.

  • 1/2 tsp. raspberry brandy
  • 3/4 oz. lime juice
  • 1/2 oz. Contratto Bitter liqueur
  • 1/2 oz. red pepper juice
  • 1/2 oz. cane syrup
  • Smoked salt, to garnish
  • A lime wheel, to garnish

Preparation

  1. Rim a double rocks glass with smoked salt and set aside.
  2. Combine all ingredients in a mixing tin and shake with ice.
  3. Strain into the glass over a large ice cube.
  4. Garnish with a lime wheel.
