Developing a commercial space for your business is hard. Even more so when that space is also used to gather community. Triply so when you do it during a pandemic. Believe it or not, Jen successfully did just that.
One of the principal tasks of starting a business is buying and developing a commercial space. Recently, Jen bought a new building for her marketing shop, Redhead Creative Consultancy, and an exciting new endeavor — Nelson Gallery. Redhead took the upstairs and Nelson lives below.
Starting a new commercial project is never a cake walk, but when you factor in a global pandemic, well, it gets a tad more challenging.
This episode we talk through the challenges faced and lessons learned from inventing, branding, and launching a successful new retail venture in downtown Lansing.

Dry Martini
Dry Martini
Gin
It’s a ubiquitous classic. From smoky bars to soirées to James Bond — the dry martini is as respected as time itself. With this drink in hand, you may brood, you may laugh, you may cry — but one thing is for certain: you will be respected. Gin, just like its drinker, is complex, and with a dry martini that has but only a splash of vermouth, gin is the ingredient that shines. Just like its drinker in a dimly lit room.
Ingredients
- Cracked ice
- 2 1/2 ounces Beefeater gin
- 1/2 ounce dry vermouth
- Green olive for garnish
Preparation
- In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine gin and vermouth.
- Stir well, about 30 seconds.
- Strain into martini glass.
- Garnish with olive or lemon twist and serve.
