Bandwidth: Navigating Cognitive and Emotional Capacity
When was the last time you got to the end of your task list for the day? Never – there is always more to do at home and work. Whether it’s taking on a new project at work or pursuing a new hobby at home, there are times when you just don’t have the bandwidth to take on any more. And that lack of bandwidth is negatively impacting your ability to truly achieve your goals. So what’s to be done? That is what we’re talking about today: identifying and overcoming limited bandwidth.
Cheers to our 150th episode! What better way to celebrate than with a topic we both have challenges with? Bandwidth. There are only so many tasks you can work on at any given time, even for us multitaskers. And when overwhelmed, it takes an emotional toll on how we organize cognitively. In our experience, it’s essential to acknowledge your bandwidth and stick to it. There’s no denying that the to-do lists can often feel never-ending. But we can’t let our stressors affect our quality of work. It takes boundaries to ensure that there is just enough on your plates, both in our personal and work lives. How can we identify our maximum bandwidth, and set boundaries? Join us as we discuss our strategies and goals for keeping it all balanced.

Boat House Punch

Boat House Punch

Gin
Boat House Punch
The magic of the Boat House Punch happens when you go with the flow and give its ingredients time to mingle into the perfect party cocktail. This cocktail balances the richness of the lemon sugar with gin, Aperol, St. Germain, and effervescent rose. From there, a combination of citrus juices keep the cocktail tangy and sweet without being too much of a knockout.

Ingredients

  • 1 liter dry gin
  • 750 mL Aperol
  • 750 mL sparkling rosé
  • 12 oz St. Germain
  • 12 oz grapefruit juice, freshly squeezed
  • 12 oz lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 12 oz orange juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1/2 cup superfine sugar
  • 4 lemons, peeled
  • Garnish: orange wheels

Preparation

  1. Muddle the lemon peels (save lemons for juicing) with the sugar in a bowl until the sugar looks slightly moistened.
  2. Cover and let sit overnight (or for at least one hour), so the lemon oils can absorb into the sugar.
  3. Add the gin, Aperol, St. Germain, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, and orange juice to a large pitcher.
  4. Add the lemon-sugar mixture, and let sit for 15 minutes.
  5. Remove the lemon peels, drop in a large ice block, and add the sparkling rosé.
  6. Use orange wheels to garnish the pitcher and individual cups.
