Kentucky Maid

Bourbon
A light amber cocktail served in a short glass with a large ice cube, garnished with a cucumber slice and fresh mint leaves skewered on a decorative pick.
The Kentucky Maid is a crisp, herbaceous twist on the classic mint julep, perfect for warm days or whenever you want something fresh with a little Southern backbone. This cocktail blends cooling cucumber, bright mint, and zesty lime with the rich warmth of bourbon. A touch of simple syrup ties it all together, balancing sweetness with the bourbon’s depth. Muddled mint and cucumber create a fragrant bouquet, while a cucumber-mint garnish gives it a clean, polished finish. Refreshing, bold, and surprisingly complex — it's a garden party in a glass.

Ingredients

  • 8 mint leaves
  • 2 thin cucumber slices
  • 3/4 oz simple syrup
  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 1 oz lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • Garnish: mint sprig skewed through a cucumber slice

Preparation

  1. Place the mint leaves in a shaker and top with the cucumber slices. Add the simple syrup and gently muddle, making sure to break up the cucumber skins.
  2. Add the bourbon and lime juice, plus ice, and shake until well-chilled.
  3. Strain into a double rocks glass over one large ice cube.
  4. Garnish with the mint sprig skewered through a cucumber wheel.
